Bombplates launches site for legendary band


This past week the Bombplates team launched a new website for the legendary Charlie Daniels Band. It is an honor to be asked to help tell the 50-plus year story of one of the worlds most recognized and acclaimed bands.


This was our largest artist to date, and we are proud to say that we were successful in finding solutions for a project that presented some unique challenges that required creative solutions and improvements to Bombplates platform overall.




The Charlie Daniels Experience:


The Fan Club


When the CDB team approached us, the existing site had been in use for more than six years and was showing it’s age in the mobile-friendly web world. While simple and informative, the site needed some cleaning up and expanded functionality for a very active fan club. In this particular instance we needed to figure out a way to transition a fan club from receiving mail as their only communications, and translate those activities to the web in an easily manageable way.


With this being the main focus, we created a marriage between the Bombplates Fan Club feature released last year, PayPal, and Mailchimp. Using this new system, fans can purchase a membership directly from Charlie’s site and gain access to content only accessible to the fan club members - including a new webform-based Meet & Greet request system.


By leveraging our existing mailing list integrations, fan club members are automatically added to an exclusive list the CDB team can use for special promotions and news. Including merchandise discount codes for the webstore, which is built, maintained, and fulfilled by our sister company MerchMo.






Charlie Daniels is an avid iPad user. We knew from the beginning that we were going to build the site using a responsive framework, and after researching the old sites recent analytics, we found that 40% of all traffic was coming from a mobile device. In the first week alone of the new site, more than 1500 people visited the site from a smartphone and the numbers have stayed consistent every day.





 When we first looked at Charlie’s social numbers it was clear how disciplined he is as a social media practitioner. His engagement is great and the response from fans is clear evidence of this because in the first week of the new site, more than 1300 visits came from social referrals. To further improve upon this engagement we updated our social media sharing feature to display how successful posts are and encourage fan engagement. Using this information, Charlie’s team (and any Bombplates user for that matter) can see what is working from an engagement perspective and tailor posts accordingly.



End Result


We had a great experience working with the Charlie Daniels team to improve Bombplates by creating cost-effective solutions for artists. We have a strong company philosophy to grow Bombplates in a way that allows acts of all sizes, both large and small to see increased fan interaction and traffic.


With every new artist we work with and the challenges that arise, the platform is getting stronger and more powerful.
